Regional Ethnology of Scotland

East Lothian Dumfries & Galloway Angus Argyll & Bute

Regional Ethnology of Scotland Project

This innovative project aims to collect and make widely available primary source material that illustrates everyday life and society in Scotland, past and present, and to produce supporting scholarly studies.

The Project is being conducted over a series of regional studies, and is divided into two main themes: the Spoken Word, and the Written Word.

Local participation is at the heart of the Project, with volunteers having the opportunity to get involved in all aspects of the collecting process, from recording interviews to transcribing historical documents.

We are currently collecting material in East Lothian.

Active study regions are highlighted in bright blue on the map. Other regions for which we have material are highlighted in dark blue. Click on one to start exploring.
